Documentary filmmakers have long been captivated by the resilience and strength of the Bronx, New York community. From the love story of the first owners who built a replica of the restaurant where they met and fell in love in France before moving to New York, to interviews with Bronx teachers, families, artists and community leaders, people have described a similar sense of energy, positivity and resilience. The directors of the film, Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern, based in New York City, initially set out to highlight oversized high school students across the country. However, filmmaker Nausheen Dadabhoy, a Firelight Documentary Lab alum and Impact Campaign Fund Fellow, and impact producer Aber Kawas have also contributed to capturing the Bronx's spirit through their acclaimed documentary An Act of Worship.
Dadabhoy has been working with Arab and Muslim communities in New York City on political issues such as immigration reform, illegal surveillance and surveillance, as well as advocating against Islamophobia.
